Acid stain
An acid stain reacts with the concrete, so the result varies across the floor and from one slab to another. It gives mottled, variegated color in earth tones, and the result is hard to predict, which is why a test spot matters.
Typical cost in Avondale
Avondale Polished Concrete adds color to interior concrete floors in Avondale, with stain, with dye, or with dye under a polish. The slab is the canvas, so the finished floor shows its own cream or salt-and-pepper character, patches and marks as part of the color. Color work here is for interior and garage floors; patios, driveways and pool decks are not included.
We work for homeowners in Avondale, Goodyear and Tolleson. In a city where about three in four homes are single-family houses, the most visible slabs are often the garage and the great room.

Water-based stains and dyes color the concrete without relying on a chemical reaction, and a wider range of colors is available. Dye is often chosen for a more even, saturated color than a stain gives.
Dye can be applied during the polishing steps, so the color sits in the surface and the floor is then polished to the sheen you want. This is how a charcoal garage floor or a warm terracotta living room is made.
The slab’s own mix shows through color. A cream finish gives a smoother, more even base, and salt-and-pepper or aggregate looks show flecks and stone. Patches, cracks, saw cuts and trowel marks take color differently and stay visible, and a weak surface may not hold a polish.
We build a test area on the actual slab and you approve it before the floor is colored. Variation in color is part of the look of stained and dyed concrete, and it will not match a sample card exactly.
Warm palettes run from sand and terracotta to deep rust. Neutral palettes use greys and taupes, and dark palettes use charcoal and deep green. We show color on a test area rather than naming brands, and we help you match color to cabinets, walls and the light in the room.
Clean as the installer advises and wipe up spills quickly. A guard is optional, depends on the floor and is renewed only where one was put down. We make no promise about how color ages, because that depends on the product and the light: ask for the maker’s information before choosing.
Stain and dye go into the concrete, while paint stays on top as a film that can wear and peel. Stain looks clouded and dye more even. Paint is not something we apply.
Yes, once coverings, glue and coatings are off and the slab is ground. Old sealers and coatings can block color, so we test first.
It depends on the product, the light and the use. Ask for the manufacturer’s information for the color you choose, and tell us about sunlit rooms.

Want a tinted garage? That sits with polished concrete garage floors. Carpet or tile still glued down means concrete floor restoration comes before any dye. Everything else we do is summed up on the Avondale Polished Concrete home page.
Tell us which room or garage the floor is in, what is on it now and the colors you are considering. If you have a color reference, describe it. We'll get back to you soon with an estimate or any questions we have. Estimates are free and there's no obligation.
